Job Description

We are seeking a detail orientated Senior Financial Analyst to work out of our Calgary corporate office. The selected candidate will report to Manager, Financial Reporting and will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of the quarterly and annual financial statements and management analysis and discussion. You will also ensure that reports, accounting and documentation complies with the Company’s regulations, professional standards and IFRS reporting guidelines. 

 

The selected candidate will be part of our hybrid, remote working program.

 

What would you be doing?                                                                                                                      

  • Work directly with the Vice President, Finance and Corporate Controlling, Controllers and Financial Analysts in Corporate Finance and Operational Accounting, as well as work with and cross train with the Senior Treasury Analyst.
  • Assist in the development of the strategy, goals and objectives for the financial reporting function that align with the overall Organization’s strategy and goals and develop plans to reduce financial risks.
  • Preparation of the corporate financial reporting process, including preparation of consolidated financial statements and management analysis and discussion required on a quarterly and annual basis to be presented to the Board and posted on SEDAR for external reporting compliance purposes.
  • Assisting with preparation of presentations for Board reports quarterly, internal monthly reports and other reporting as required.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and related analysis on a regular basis.
  • Assisting with the developing and maintaining accounting policies and guidelines for the organization including accounting research.
  • Research and prepare variance analysis and explanations by analyzing past results, identifying trends, and providing recommendations for improvements to Corporate finance and the business.
  • Increase productivity by developing or improving automated reporting tools models.
  • Identify process improvements and provide support in the implementation of enhanced tools for efficiencies (such as robotic process automation).
  • Building relationships with external auditors on a quarterly basis and accounting consultants as required.
  • Supporting technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting policies, along with other disclosure or governance requirements as required. Ensuring to understand the business and the implications to the business of the accounting policies. As well as ensuring that the implementation is practical for the business and is the right business decision.
  • Assistance and backup for preparing required information for the covenant compliance process for the Corporation on a monthly and ad hoc basis.
  • Provide financial guidance to business areas to ensure accurate accounting and accounting decisions align with business decisions.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned. 

Does this sound like you? 

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, preferably IFRS.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills as well as thorough analytical and critical thinking skills to perform independent analysis with attention to detail.
  • An ability to apply professional judgment in determining the appropriate accounting or reporting methods in various situations, evaluating possible solutions and providing recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in using Workiva as a reporting and analysis tool for financial reporting, board reports and internal reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and experience with an ERP system (financial modules) would be an asset.
  • Experience preparing written materials, including reports, briefing notes, accounting memos and other documents for management.
  • Experience communicating complex, detailed concepts widely to differing audiences in a concise, compelling manner verbally, in writing and graphic formats.
  • Experience with public company reporting requirement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce or Business Administration and a professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience.
